The project involved re-modeling and extensions to 1950’s highset cottage at Nobby Head which had been unoccupied for many years. MPA was originally commissioned to master plan an “eco” sub-division on an environmentally sensitive headland known as “Nobby Head” and following our site investigation, this was found to be the only remaining structure suitable for a “makeover”. The building required re-roofing and re-cladding and was extended seawards with a screened verandah that protected the residents from the abundant insect population. Drawing from the character inherent in the skillion roof and highset structure which “climbed” over significant rock outcrops, the refurbishment presents as a contemporary representation of an NQ traditional building form. MPA designed and built the project within a 9 month period.
